The De Havilland Aircraft Company was established by Geoffrey de Havilland (later Captain Sir Geoffrey de Havilland) in 1920 after the liquidation of Airco. de Havilland had been the chief designer at Airco which was a major producer of aircraft for Britain and the United States during the First World War.
De Havilland Canada was founded as a subsidiary in 1928.
