Models

Getting a good modeling portfolio together is not down to how much money you have to spend. By all means pay a good photographer a decent fee to take some starter pictures. These should show you head and shoulders, three quarter length and full length but most importantly should show movement through different styles, moods and poses.

Think about the type of work you want to do, whether your body shape is suitable, and then commission similar pictures. Also consider your location. Models who live in the sticks and do glamour/nude/fetish work will find that they get a lot more work locally than those who only do fashion. It always amuses me when models say will travel anywhere if expenses paid. Why would a photographer or client fork out extra cash when there are good local models?

Most photographers, myself included, will offer new models a discount on portfolios if they can produce some work that is saleable at the same time. Another useful practice is TFCD - time for a CD of pictures where the model and photographer both work for free, the photographer gets some usable inages and the model can add them to her portfolio and use them for promotion.

Use these options to work on several shoots with one photographer or several different photographs and you will build up a portfolio of pictures that show you in a wide range of settings, styles and moods and then the paid work and even the travel expenses will start to come.

To enquire about portfolio prices and discounts or TFCD work fill out the form on the new models page.
